How to choose a mattress, a bedhead and a base that work together, and how buying one works. We make the beds and sell them through furniture stores and mattress shops across Australia and New Zealand. We don’t sell direct. If your local store doesn’t stock us, ask them for the Sleep Australasia range, or call us and we’ll tell you who’s closest.
A. Buying from a retailer
Can I buy a Sleep Australasia bed directly from you?
No. We don’t sell direct. We make our beds in Melbourne and sell them through furniture stores and mattress shops around Australia and New Zealand. In a store you can lie on the mattress, see the fabric in daylight and ask questions before you buy.
My local furniture store doesn't stock Sleep Australasia. Can I ask them to get it in?
Yes, and it’s worth asking. Tell the store you’d like to see the Sleep Australasia range. They can call us and order it in. Most furniture stores and mattress shops will bring in a brand their customers ask for.
Can I just call you to find out which store is closest?
Yes. Call us with your suburb or postcode. We’ll tell you which stores near you sell our beds, and what they have on the floor. We can assist you ordering over the phone.
Do you supply hotels, apartments and other commercial projects?
Get in touch and we’ll put you on to the right regional sales manager.
What should I take with me to the store?
Four numbers and one photo make the conversation much quicker:
- Your bed size, and how wide the wall behind it is
- The height from the floor to the windowsill or picture rail behind the bed
- Ceiling height, if the room is small
- A photo of the room, and anything you’re matching – timber, carpet, curtains
The store only has two bedheads on display. Can I order another one?
Yes. Bedheads and bases are made to order, so a retailer can order any shape in any of our fabrics, even if it isn’t on the floor. Ask to see the fabric swatch cards. Every collection is on them.
How long will a custom bedhead or base take?
Bedheads and bases are made to order, so it depends on the shape and the fabric. Your retailer will tell you how long it will take when you place the order.
B. The complete bed
What is a complete bed?
Three parts chosen together: the mattress you sleep on, the base underneath it and the bedhead behind it. Buy them as a set and the heights line up and the fabrics match, so the bed looks like one piece instead of three.
Do I have to buy all three parts at once?
No. You can buy each part on its own. If you’re buying bit by bit, start with the mattress and base, because they set the height the bedhead has to clear. Write down the fabric you like so the bedhead still matches later.
Will your bedhead fit a bed I already own?
Usually. Our bedheads are made in standard Australian bed widths, and they can be fixed to the wall or bolted to legs, so they suit most bases. Take your base’s brand, size and height to the retailer and they’ll check it before ordering.
